A New Summer Palette: Introducing Happythread's Latest Koi Colours

Summer doesn't have to mean the same scrub colours you've worn for the last five years. This season, we're moving away from primary brights and into something a little more considered — a palette built for healthcare professionals who want their uniform to feel as polished as the rest of their wardrobe.

Our latest Koi arrivals lean into soft botanicals, warm neutrals, and a fresh edit of printed scrub tops. Here's what's new, and how to wear it.

The new Summer edit

1. Pistachio: soft, not sweet

Pistachio sits in that useful space between green and grey — calmer than mint, warmer than sage. It's a flattering shade across most skin tones, which is part of why it's landed in the Koi Next Gen Hustle and Heart top and Everyday Hero trousers this season.

2. Bone: quiet luxury

Bone is the elevated alternative to white — a soft, warm off-white that doesn't show the same yellowing over time. You'll find it in the Koi Solis Sari top and Freda trousers, both built with Solis's ExoFlex ripstop fabric, so the pared-back colour comes with genuine durability and stretch underneath.

3. Digital Lavender: the directional pick

If there's one colour doing the most talking this season, it's Digital Lavender — a cool, slightly blue-toned purple that feels current rather than novelty. It's new to the Koi Cureology Cardi top and Atria trousers, which use a four-way stretch polyester twill designed for the most physically demanding shifts. It's a confident choice for anyone who wants their scrubs to stand out without shouting.

4. Pink Dream

Soft and unfussy, Pink Dream is the gentlest shade in the new edit. It appears in the Koi Essentials Tender Tee, an easy long-sleeve underscrub layer that's proving popular as the seasons shift and shifts run long and cold.

5. New prints: Koi Basics Leslie

For anyone who'd rather wear a pattern than a plain colour, the limited-edition Koi Basics Leslie scrub top is back with a fresh set of prints — including playful cat and llama motifs alongside everyday florals. They're a fun way to add personality to a uniform without straying from a practical, easy-care fabric, and being limited edition, they tend not to stick around for long.

Why the shift towards muted tones?

It's a genuine change in direction from past seasons, and it's not just an aesthetic call.

Muted tones photograph and wear better over a 12-hour shift. Bright, saturated colours can look fantastic fresh out of the packet, but they show fading, pilling and staining faster under repeated washing at 60°C. Soft botanicals like Pistachio and Pink Dream tend to age more gracefully.

They're easier to coordinate. Pistachio and Bone both sit comfortably together, and against the navy and white already common in most uniform policies — useful if you're outfitting a whole team rather than just yourself.

They still let you stand out. Digital Lavender proves a uniform doesn't have to be neutral to be professional. And if you'd rather make a statement with pattern than colour, the new Leslie prints do exactly that.

What colour suits your role?

Colour choice in healthcare isn't purely down to personal taste — there's a practical and psychological side to it too, and it's worth keeping in mind as you choose from the new range.

Nurses and ward staff tend to gravitate towards blues and soft neutrals, linked to calm and reliability and forgiving when it comes to stains and long shifts. Bone works well here as a fresh alternative to plain white.

Dentists and dental nurses often favour green and lilac-leaning shades — colours associated with focus and a steady hand. Pistachio and Digital Lavender both fit that brief nicely.

Vets and groomers generally do best in calming, animal-friendly tones such as green, which is where Pistachio comes in — practical, soothing, and easy to pair with Koi's fur-resistant fabrics. The Leslie prints are also a popular pick here, for obvious reasons.

There's no hard rule here, of course — uniform policies and personal preference always come first. But if you're choosing between two shades and can't decide, the role you're dressing for is usually a good tiebreaker.
