From Student to Registered Midwife: Sarah’s Journey into Midwifery

From Student to Registered Midwife: Finding Balance in Midwifery

My journey into midwifery, content creation, faith, and learning how to care for myself while caring for others.

Meet Sarah: The Newest Registered Midwife in Town

Hey Everyone! My name is Sarah Johnson, the newest Registered Midwife in town! While midwifery plays a big role in my life, I'm also someone who values balance, loves to travel and explore and guided by my faith.

Discovering Midwifery

Growing up midwifery wasn't a career I had in mind. One day I wanted to be a princess, the next day a celebrity singer. However, during my time in transition year, I discovered midwifery and quickly became fascinated with the idea of becoming a midwife one day.

From the moment I started the course, I developed a deep passion for midwifery. Being able to care for women and support their families during such a special time in their lives is such an honour. While there are definitely challenging days, seeing the impact that midwives have in women’s lives only deepened my love for midwifery.

Sharing the Student Midwife Experience

During my student days, I noticed there wasn't much content about midwifery from a students point of view. So, one day, I picked up my phone and started documenting my journey!

And I honestly enjoy creating content. Funny enough I never would've thought I would pursue content creation because I was the shy girl in school :) However, I really wanted to share what it was really like being a student midwife, show the ups and downs, shed light on the course, answer questions people may have and also support other student midwives in the making!

Learning to Protect My Energy

Of course!, working in healthcare can take up a huge part of your life, I quickly learnt to not let it consume me and to find balance and to not burn myself out.

One thing I prioritised was to take care of myself, because you can’t care for others if you don’t care for yourself first. For me, that meant spending time with family and friends, fellowship with my youth groups, a few trips to the spa, and trying things outside of my comfort zone.

Making time for myself helped me stay balanced and gave me the energy to keep doing what I love.
