Delivered by THEDI and Bridge2Aid, this project addresses the severe shortage of accessible dental care in rural Tanzania.
The initiative aimed to:
- Increase oral health knowledge
- Reduce oral disease by 50%
- Improve access to care by 60%
- Establish sustainable clinics by 2026

Donating scrubs ensured volunteers and clinicians had comfortable, hygienic and durable uniforms during intensive on-site training days.

Two weeks of life-changing work
The programme took place at Isesa Dispensary and Nyamainza Dispensary. Key outcomes:
- 8 dental therapists trained
- 1,617 patients treated (661 male, 956 female)
- 243 partial dentures created
- UK dentists working collaboratively with Tanzanian clinicians
The human impact
Training significantly improved therapists’ confidence and technical skills, especially in extractions, root canals and denture fabrication. This directly reduced the need for referrals to distant hospitals.
Working hand-in-hand with communities
This programme is built for long-term impact. Bridge2Aid and THEDI plan to:
- Continue six-month mentoring programmes
- Offer online seminars for ongoing development
- Provide one-to-one clinical support
- Repeat the programme in early 2026
