Charlie Rogers: FY1 Doctor, Content Creator and Happythreads UK Affiliate

Charlie in his HappyThreads scrubs working in Leeds 🩺

Hi, I’m Charlie, an FY1 Doctor currently working in Neurosurgery at Leeds General Infirmary in the UK, and one of the UK affiliates here at Happythreads.

From medical school to foundation training

Graduation day🎓

My journey into healthcare began at the University of Leeds in 2019. After five challenging years of medical school, I graduated with honours and finally fulfilled a lifelong ambition of becoming a doctor, starting with a rotation in psychiatry alongside on-call medical shifts, before commencing my current rotation in neurosurgery.

Looking ahead in medicine

The first baby I delivered in Uganda🤍

My goal in the future is to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology, ideally with experience working in low-resource environments through an organisation like MSF (Doctors Without Borders). Although this has been my desire for several years now, one of the wonderful things about healthcare is the career opportunities which surface over time, allowing our passions and aspirations to change or develop, so I make an effort to remain receptive to all specialties.

Life outside the hospital and working with Happythreads

Although medicine forms a significant part of my life, I ensure to enjoy activities outside of my career too. Recently, I’ve found social media to be a creative outlet that not only provides me with a platform to work with exciting brands like HappyThreads, but also a place to connect with healthcare professionals across the world who might be able to relate to my lifestyle.

Although I am relatively new to ‘’influencing’’, one of the crucial things that I want my make evident is that we, as clinicians, are (relatively!) normal people - enjoying travel, time with friends, nights out and generally not taking life so seriously.

We are often guilty of holding ourselves to exceptionally high standards, accepting nothing less than perfect as our norm, which is seen widely over social media with the rise of medical content creators. What I want to display in my content to both new and existing health professionals, is the possibility of enjoying a successful and prosperous medical career, whilst simultaneously setting aside time to appreciate life outside of medicine.

Follow the journey

If any part of my story resonated with you, I’d love to have you along for the journey.
